Satellite Stories - Blame The Fireworks

I have yet to find a bad song by Satellite Stories. These lads describe themselves as "four daring satellite heroes from the planet of summery breeze (Oulu, Finland)". Whatever that means I'm happy to roll with it. If this blog had been started last year I'd have been inclined to introduce the band with Kids Aren't Safe On The Metro which is probably my favourite. However, time has passed and the band are writing new stuff. This is definitely one for the fans of TDCC and similar bands. If you like fun, happy, energetic music, then these Finns will most likely rock your boat.

Calm as the Colour - The Rain Must Fall

Today's post is all about a four-piece band from Fife. The band list one of their influences as The Smiths which becomes clear when listening to their songs. I'm a bit of a sucker for Scottish music in general but these guys have mastered something different to other current Scots artists. Once again, you can download the band's recent work completely free Here and Here! What's more, the video for the song is a fantastic watch.

Alt-J - Breezeblocks

Today's track is by Leeds-based band: Alt-J who have gained a reputation for their unique percussion. The band recently did a Maida Vale session with the BBC in which they demonstrated their live talent as a group. This song is one that builds up throughout to create a great finish featuring the voices of the various band members. Currently, the band are preparing for their February through March UK tour during which they will be supporting bigger acts including Ghostpoet and Wild Beasts.

Chad Valley - Now That I'm Real (How Does It Feel?)

Chad Valley is the stage name of one man band Hugo Manuel who released his incredible seven track EP Equatorial Ultravox in 2011. The best track for me has to be this one which I came across when watching videos of last year's T in The Park (Click Here). This man definitely deserves more recognition for his unique sound and style of performance. Perfect if you're tired of the same old sound.

The Carpels - Sand

Today's track is the sort of song you would hear on an advert for Skins or in a dramatic sports compilation video. Although not their most recent release, this tune by The Carpels is for me, their best. The band are still relatively new to the game, but have made a big impression with their other releases including: "Handshakes" and their latest track "Bears". With their tracks getting airplay on various BBC radio stations, The Carpels will no doubt become a household name in the not so distant future.

And the Giraffe - Underground Love

It's almost Friday! Until then, I'm planning on doing very little productive and what better soundtrack to chill to than this. Not only is this a beautiful song, but it has a whole album to complement it. Enough? No? Okay well you could always go and download the whole album for FREE Here! No more needs to be said.

Mumford & Sons - Ghosts That We knew

Today a partial Rockness 2012 Line up was announced. I for one was very pleased to see the inclusion of the likes of Deadmau5, Justice and Biffy Clyro. However, one name caught my eye and that was the infamous Mumford & Sons! Everyone loves them and it's clear why. It would be an intelligent guess to expect a brilliant second album from them and although still unnamed and with little clarity of a release date, there have been other hints of new things from the band, including "Ghosts That We Knew".

Bwani Junction - Two Bridges

My favourite song of 2011? A tough decision to make, but when re-listening to Bwani Junction's album "Fully Cocked" tonight I found myself dreaming of Summer again (surprising considering the current weather in Glasgow). The album is just so cheerful and upbeat throughout which is something that some bands seem to be unable to master at the moment (cue prolonged Coldplay rant)... Anyway, these Edinburgh lads have got it covered.

PS. Someone finally finished painting the Forth Road Bridge..

M83 - Steve McQueen

This song may not be as new as the others, however, it's the type of song that you listen to over and over and over again. M83 hit the bigtime when their song "Midnight City" was used as the theme tune for the E4 show: Made In Chelsea. Following this  increased popularity M83 are currently on an eight date tour of the UK. With a twenty-two track album, the average listener is bound to find a song they like, if not twenty-two. Anyway, this is one of my favourite tracks from the album as it is so unlike anything else I've heard...

Midnight Lion - Sleeping In The Woods

There's not much to say about this song but with their EP due mid February, Midnight Lion are set for bigger things. The band are gaining a lot of attention through release of such songs as this anthemic masterpiece. If you're a fan, go and check out "All Greatness Stands Firm" which is another great piece of music. Give it a go..

Kele ft. Lucy Taylor - What Did I Do?

Following the  tragic split of Bloc Party, Kele Okereke (front man) went solo. His first album was brilliant so let's hope that the popularity of his songs don't diminish like they did with Bloc Party. Luckily, Kele has followed up to his debut album with a promising 7 track EP: "The Hunter". The first track on the EP called "What Did I Do?" perfectly demonstrates the current direction of his music which seems to be leaning towards the dance/electro scene. Here's hoping the others aren't too bitter about his success...

Kenetics - Toothache

Now for  a song I came across today by a band named Kenetics. I have already seen this featured on a number of other blogs and review sites which I'm sure is a promising site for the band who are originally from Hertfordshire. I can definitely hear a wee bit of early Foals flowing through it and possibly even a bit of The xx (although this is probably due to the combination of the male and female voice). See what you think..

Walk Off The Earth - Somebody That I Used To Know

Right, I'm gonna go ahead and jump on the bandwagon and talk about how awesome this song is. When a friend showed me this I was intrigued straight from the first listen. It has been a while since I last heard a cover of a song that I enjoyed more than the original but this just did it for me. Although just about every man and his dog have seen this video already I felt I had to say something about it...

We Have Band - Where Are Your People?

Sometime in 2010 I went to see Two Door Cinema Club at Oran Mor in Glasgow. It was one of those gigs where you find yourself being far too early in anticipation of seeing one of your favourite bands. However, it was also incredibly satisfying to find that We Have Band were soon to enter the stage (unfortunately we had already missed Kowalski). We Have Band's performance really caught my attention and naturally I was very excited when I recently found out about their new track "Where Are Your People?"

Pnau - With You Forever

I'm guessing a lot more people have heard of Empire of the Sun than have heard of Pnau. What do they have in common? The same lead singer. Perhaps my favourite song by Pnau is titled With "You Forever" and is a wonderful creation with a funky riff perfectly accompanied by the unusual voice of the above mentioned singer. Give it a listen..

College Feat. Electric Youth - A Real Hero

Anyone lucky enough to have seen the awesome 2011 film "Drive" starring Ryan Gosling will have heard the chilling soundtrack: "A Real Hero" by College feat. Electric Youth. I think the song works perfectly for the movie and has a sort of 80s vibe to it. If you've never heard this beautiful song then take a listen now..

ON/AIR - Die By The Sword

It doesn't get any newer than this. A virtually unheard of band with their debut music video for "Die By The Sword". The video features people from the band's local area mimicking the words beautifully sung by lead singer Josh Carruthers. Since hearing this, the band have become one of my favourite emerging acts and I fully expect the release of the new track titled "Own Up" to be just as big a success. Enjoy...

Hilltop Hoods Feat. Sia - I Love It

"Australian Hip Hop" - Not a common title in today's music industry, however Hilltop Hoods recently released their new single: I Love It Featuring Sia and gained a lot of new fans with it. Rightly so I would say as this is the sort of track I find myself listening to on repeat. All. Day. Long. I love it...
