Benjamin Francis Leftwich - Titanium (BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge)

Ben Leftwich's album: "Last Smoke Before The Snowstorm" is as brilliant and engaging as his live performance. His voice is continuously flawless without any effects which is ever scarce in the music industry today. It is a rarity to find a cover that completely changes your view of a song, but this cover is one of the best I've heard in a long time and brings an unpredictable and original take on a popular chart hit. Give it a listen and go and see him live. You won't regret it.

Trapped in Kansas - Stick to the Roads

Another Scottish band today, or more specifically: Glaswegian. Trapped in Kansas' EP: How To Go is all that a modern EP should be; Intriguing from the first song and filled with a variety of possible single releases. Stick to the Roads is one of the tracks on this record and gives a taster as to what these guys are all about. Also check out "I Was Born".

Tune-Yards - Bizness

Despite the album "W H O K I L L" being a little too obscure for my taste I stuck with Tune-Yards because their/his/Merrill Garbus' song "My Country" offered a solid introduction to the unusual sound heard throughout. It was only through a second visit to the album that I discovered "Bizness" which I now consider the stand out track of the album. The video is pretty cool too...

King Charles - LoveBlood

King Charles burst onto the music scene back when "Love Lust" was released a couple of years ago. His new release: "LoveBlood", has rightfully gained him the attention he deserves and can be heard on current radio too. Hopefully this talented musician will gain further recognition when he releases a wider array of tracks as we are currently limited to just a handful of his tunes. Check out "LoveBlood" and experience its catchiness.

The Shaws - Broke, By The Break

Yet another great song by the lads from Wales. Talk of an up and coming album has got me very excited and if this track is anything to go by, it will be one for the collection. Other new songs are being uploaded daily through front-man James Silito's YouTube account Here. Check it out!

Fun - We Are Young feat. Janelle Monáe

I'm still to decide whether this song is incredibly annoying or genuinely good. Either way, it's catchy and has gained the band a name after it being featured on an episode of "glee". The more I write the more unsure I am about whether it is a good idea to post this. However, you can make your on mind up. Here it is.

Blank Canvas - By The Fire

This song is just incredible. Blank canvas are yet another Edinburgh-based band to be featured on this site and really are one of the best there is. Their 2010 EP gained them a lot of attention and support and they're simply moving onto bigger and better things. AWOLNATION - Sail

Today has unfortunately been dedicated to essay work. The point is, this song is brilliant for having on to help inspire you through the boredom. These American guys have made some extremely decent music in their time, and although they've only been at it for a while they already have a wide array of tunes to satisfy their fans. The Shaws - L.A

The Shaws have been one of my favourite small bands for a while now. My following of the band began when I heard their song: "The Way You Feel" for the first time which got me hooked me on the very first listen. Therefore, it was to my great pleasure to find out about their new stuff. This song shows a slightly different sound to their self-titled first EP, however, I am very excited to hear the complete new collection from these Welsh boys when it is released. Have a listen...

The Concept - D-D-Dance

It's Friday! That calls for a dancing song and this does just the job. The Concept are a 4-piece Swedish band from Stockholm with a great upbeat feel to their music. The band have a series of live dates coming up but unfortunately aren't planning on venturing out of their home nation. Hopefully we'll see the band touring other countries soon though. Give this one a listen..

No Need For Idols - Truth

Today it's all about No Need For Idols. The band; based in Glasgow, have been making an impression on the city streets with a series of live dates and have recently released their self-titled debut EP. Throughout the record, the strong melodies and riffs are supported by the piercing vocals which are especially strong in "For All I've Done". Cloud Nothings - Stay Useless

Today we have one of the best features in a while in my opinion. Cloud Nothings' new album "Attack on Memory" has some absolute tunes on it and this is one of them. The only real bad thing about this song is when it ends after 3 minutes. There is definitely a bit of The Strokes inspiration going on somewhere, especially in the guitar riffs. This is the sort of song that hooks you on the first play and I will be surprised if I don't here more about the success of the band in the near future. Fossil Collective - On and On

Today's tune comes from Fossil Collective - a two-piece band from Leeds. These guys have recently been compared to the likes of Bon Iver and list their inspirations as such acts as Simon and Garfunkel. Electric Guest - This Head I Hold

Today's song is a little bit different to the usual with this new track "This Head I Hold" by Electric Guest. The band are duo Asa Taccone & Matthew Compton from Los Angeles. The album will be released on April 24th and will be titled "Mondo". The vocals on this track are what makes it so catchy and give a hint of Plan B-style music which promises to appeal to many music listeners.

Django Django - Default

Whilst this song might not be everyone's cup of tea, it must be acknowledged as a great piece of music. The band, originally from London, have recently released their self-titled first album which has gained a lot of media attention. There are a number of stand out tracks of which the most popular has to be this. It is difficult to compare this band to other artists since their sound is so unique but perhaps other bands will follow in their footsteps and one day be compared to Django Django themselves.

Tall Ships - Vessels

Today, it's all about Tall Ships. Taken from their 9-song debut EP, this epic sound sets the bar for the rest of the tracks which experiment with a whole load of different styles. This song in particular is a good example of the variety Tall Ships bring to their music. The song begins with a light acoustic sound only to be followed by a strong Foals-like build up and finishes with a Beirut-style rhythm. It probably sounds like I'm just trying to string together things to say but think what you will, these guys are at the beginning of what promises to be a long career in music. Give it a listen.

Tommy Reilly - Tenement TV Acoustic Session

Today's post is about a Scottish man named Tommy Reilly. Being a relatively small artist it is hard to find good quality videos. However, this acoustic session with Tenement TV really shows the raw talent this guy has. The first song "6 billion people" is so catchy you'll be singing it in your sleep. All of Tommy's stuff is available on iTunes and I would highly recommend giving it a listen. The closest comparison I could really make to current artists would be a mix between Paolo Nutini and Ben Howard. Enjoy!

Bear Cavalry - Roman Summer

It is with great pleasure that I introduce Bear Cavalry. This band from Gosport are really going places and making big contacts in the music industry with support from the likes of Annie Mac and Nick Grimshaw. The vocals in this track make me think of Everything Everything but all in all just make me want to dance. It is also clear from listening to other songs by the band that they have a large number of influences and various styles of playing. I've become a big fan and hope to see these guys touring near me very soon!
